Newtown Labor is hosting a one-day housing policy summit on Saturday the 23rd of July for branch members, resident activists, and trade union members.

The event will take place at the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (1 Bedford Street, Newtown) between 10am and 4pm. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

The purpose of this rank-and-file event is to assist party members in forming a coherent alternative to the NSW Coalition Government's war against public housing. After decades of austerity, the Coalition are now in the process of privatising and demolishing a swathe of public housing communities in Waterloo, Redfern, Glebe, and other long-standing low-income communities in Sydney.

The housing policy summit will provide branch members with an opportunity to learn about the causes of this issue and what NSW Labor needs to do to address this issue if we form Government in 2023. It is high time that our party undertakes to protect the legacy of social democracy in Sydney. We need to adopt policies at the 2022 NSW Labor Conference that will guarantee the survival of working-class communities and their homes.

This event is open to all branch members interested in learning about housing policy issues and community organising skills.
